How To Solve Windows 10 Update Fail (error code 0x80073712)

Problem
Whenever I try to update windows 10 it ends with an error message. I checked Internet connection status; it is ok. No firewall block windows update. It is actually downloading installation files. However, in the end, an error message is pop up with an error code.
Solution
There are different reasons for update fail. The code showing the message indicate the reason of fail. The following solution works well with error code 0x80073712 (You can try this for other error code too). If you cannot another fix for your problem, here is the final solution.

Note: Each step work individually, if you fail at any following step do not hesitate to follow next step. Try “How to do” video given below.


1. Disable antivirus and firewall (if any)

2. Go to Services (try Cortana)

Right click on Windows Update > Choose Restart (if Restart not active click Start)

3. Now go to Troubleshooting menu

Normal method - go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting
Easy way – search Troubleshooting in Cortana
Another method is to get Troubleshooting menu - download and run Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft websit
In trouble shooting window click on Fix problems with Windows Update
Click Next > Try troubleshooting as an administrator
In the window appears (Repair Windows Update Database Update) click Apply this fix

4. Run command prompt as administrator (Important)

Search command prompt in Cortana > right click on the result then click on Run as administrator
Type following command
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
Wait until scan complete, once it completed type another Command
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Congratulation Now you are ready to try Windows update again
